Deacon the Villain

This week I sit down with the founding member of CunninLynguists and QN5 Music representative, Deacon the Villain. We talk about the days growing up as a preachers son in Kentucky, to Kno's new Built to Fade album. Of course, we reminisce about Big L, The B.U.M.S., sampling and chat about the events surrounding the pivotal album, A Piece of Strange, an album that almost became the new name for the group. A Piece of Strange is a dense concept record that explores the religion and racism that are staples of the south, and questions the space between right and wrong that will always resonate. Lastly, we chat about the events leading up to The Off Daze side project, which leads us through excursions in Paris, remaining 100% sample free and how underground hip-hop bubbled up from the decline of the mainstream. Deacon expects to release a new song every three weeks throughout 2020, so he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
